Board Books for Presidents' Day with Craft & More Book Round-Ups

Disclosure: I was sent copies of these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Happy February!! With February comes so many different things from Valentine's Day to Presidents' Day and more! I thought we would kick February off by sharing two new board books that are perfect for Presidents' Day. When I was young, I remember getting both Abraham Lincoln's and George Washington's birthdays off. At some point they merged into Presidents' Day. Of course, if you look at the history of Presidents' Day it was begun to celebrate George Washington's birthday. Hmmm, somehow Abraham got forgotten there. Anyway, with both of their birthdays this month, I am going to share books about both of them. Both books are written by Patricia A. Pingry, and both are board books, so they are perfect for your youngest book lovers! Let's start with The Story of George Washington. These books are recommended for ages 2 to 5.

From the Publisher:

Explore George Washington's childhood and presidency with this 200-word board book perfect for little learners!

This little book introduces George Washington, one of the forefathers of the United States, and its first president. Simple, toddler-friendly text tells the infamous story of the cherry tree from his childhood, his part in the Revolutionary War, and his presidency. Accompanied by vivid and engaging illustrations, The Story of George Washington will help even the smallest children understand who George Washington is, and why he is so important.

From Me:

The book talks about how Presidents' Day is to celebrate George's birthday and how he is called the father of our country. It goes into his life from there including his birth information and the story of chopping down a cherry tree. Pingry points out that it is a story. It goes into some details about his careers as a surveyor and farmer and then of course leading the colonies in the war. The book claims George Washington led the Continental Congress which wrote the Constitution, but I believe this is not true. I do love how the book is honest about the fact that George Washington owned slaves. The book also shares with the reader the ways George Washington has been honored and memorialized in our country. It is a sweet book to introduce the first President to young children.

Our second book is The Story of Abraham Lincoln.

From the Publisher:

Introduce little learners to Abraham Lincoln's childhood and presidency with this 200-word board book.

This little book introduces Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States. Simple, toddler-friendly text tells the story of his childhood, his rise to the presidency, and the part he played in the U.S. Civil War. Accompanied by vivid and engaging illustrations, The Story of Abraham Lincoln will help even the smallest children understand who Abraham Lincoln is, and why he is so important.

From Me:

This board book shares the story of President Lincoln from his childhood through his presidency. It shares his love of reading as well as his hardships growing up. It also shares how he was not liked by all the citizens of the United States and of course about the Civil War being over slavery. In similar fashion to the George Washington book this book ends with how Abraham Lincoln has been memorialized in our country.

Both books are sweet short books perfect for the youngest learners to be introduced to two of the important historical Presidents of the United States. I hope you will check them out if you have young learners. To go with these books I wanted to share Presidents' Day crafts as well as books for older kids.
