Women History

Disclosure: I was sent these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The links are affiliate links where I will receive a small percentage of any purchases made through them at no cost to you. Thank you for supporting Crafty Moms Share!

Do you children like to read nonfiction? Hazel does. She always has. I was recently told that they now recommend that kids read 50% nonfiction. How disappointing when you look at the number of books for younger readers that are about women. There are not that many out there. However today I am going to share five nonfiction picture books and one novel that shares a bit about real women in history.  We will start wtih Brave Jane Austen: Reader, Writer, Author, Rebel by Lisa Pliscou and illustrated by Jen Corace.

The Night Knights -- a new picture book for the kids who are scared at night

Disclosure: Abrams Books sent me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Do you have a child who is afraid of the dark or of going to bed? Does he or she think there might be monsters in his or her room? Hazel was this child. She often got afraid to be alone at night and was very afraid of the dark. She has grown out of it mostly, but there are still times when it comes back. However for the younger kids today I am sharing a wonderful new book to help. It is The Night Knights by Gideon Sterer and illustrated by Cory Godbey.

DIY Gift Bows with Cherry Blossoms Gift Wrapping Paper -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: Tuttle Publishing sent me this wrapping paper in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Do you collect wrapping paper like I do? I see some pretty paper and think how it will look on a gift, yet then I tend to "wrap" with gift bags for ease. What do I do with my wrapping paper? Well I have shared some craft ideas like card decorating and envelope liners, paper flowers, paper beads, origami paper and paper cutting crafts, party decorations, and a background for a photo booth.  And of course there is just plain using it for wrapping gifts!! I love how the Cherry Blossoms Gift Wrapping Papers look and recently saw a diy gift bow class.

Books Involving Color and Art

Disclosure: I was sent these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Some of the links (Target ones) are affiliate links where I will receive a small percentage of any purchases made through them at no cost to you. Thank you for supporting Crafty Moms Share!

I love art and want Hazel to love art. My love for art came from having an amazing elementary school art teacher. In fifth grade the special field trip was to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In order to go you had to pass a test on art and artists as well as complete a packet of projects and more. I am always looking for ways to bring art into our lives and I love doing it with books. Plus of course taking her to museums, but this is not always possible, so books at home definitely help. Today I am going to share five books that involve art or color. Some are about color and some are about art and others are based on art. All of them help you have conversations with kids about color and art. We will start with the two about color. The first is Pink Is for Boys by Robb Pearlman and illustrated by Eda Kaban. This book is coming out in June!

She calls her ministry Pawprints on Hazel's Heart. In celebration of National Pet Month I am going to share three pet realted books with you. These picture books range in the ages that they will work. Going in order of age, we will start with the two books that are for Preschool through third grade. Anyone Can Knit -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: Skyhorse Publishing sent me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Lately Hazel has been askign to learn to knit. I have attempted to teach her on my own, but it usually ends in a fight. My mother helped her a bit with it awhile ago, but Hazel hasn't really practiced and thus hasn't kept it yet. However I was excited to get Anyone Can Knit by Libby Summers in hopes it would help her.
