Publisher’s Synopsis: The True story of “Nick the Firedog” is a true story about a pit bull puppy that was left abandoned and tied to a fire hydrant a block away from the firehouse. The puppy was rescued by the local firefighters where he quickly became a permanent fixture at the firehouse and a local celebrity. He goes on calls, teaches fire prevention, and even has his own fire coat.

Timothy Dexter, Jr. is a 20 year veteran of the Fire Service. The author currently holds the rank of Assistant Fire Chief of the City of Newburgh, NY Fire Department where the real Nick the Firedog lives. This is the first book he has written which tells the true story of how an abandoned puppy got a new lease on life as a firehouse mascot.

From Me:

This book is a sweet story. I love that the firemen saw a dog in trouble and took him in. They saw he got along with them and decided to keep him.  They even bring him to fires as well as schools to talk about fire safety. In the book some fire safety is mentioned like checking fire detectors monthly, sleeping with doors closed and more. Do your kids know at home fire safety?

I love the story and the illustrations in this book. It is perfect for the younger kids who love dogs and fire stations. It also can start discussions on fire safety as well as taking care of pets and what is required.

Fire Safety

To go with this book, I wanted to share some resources for fire safety. Years ago, we shared a post with a book about fire safetyI also asked some fellow bloggers what they had on fire safety. Here are the ones that are free.
