Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Stephen Bowling to bring you this post.

Fall began on Sunday, and it is definitely in the air. This weekend was the first time the weather actually felt like fall in New England. It is time to put out the fall decorations--the pumpkins, mums, hay bales, and scarecrows! To celebrate the beginning of this wonderful season I get to share a book about a friendly scarecrow as well as a scarecrow craft round-up! The book is called Winslow Scarecrow: Scarecrows Are Supposed to Be Scary by Stephen G. Bowling and illustrated by Vitali Dudarenka.

The Kindness Machine -- Picture Book Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Purple Butterfly Press and will receive a small stipend for this post. All opinions are my own.

"Spread kindness like confetti!" and "Be kind!" are two very popular sayings these days. Let's face it, today's world really needs more kindness! We are teaching our kids to be kind to others but are we teaching them to be kind to themselves. Are we being kind to ourselves and others? How do we really teach kindness? The answer to many of these questions can be answered with today's book. The book is The Kindness Machine by Chirstina Dankert and illustrated by Chad Dankert.

Picture Books that Teach Kindness & Understanding

Disclosure: I am working with The Children's Book Review & REED Foundation for Autism by sharing these books with you. All opinions are my own.

April is Autism Awareness Month. I have a close friend who has a son on the spectrum. It is through them that I truly became aware of autism and what it is. Her son is highly functioning, but I know the difficulties he can have. When he was young I was one of the only people she allowed to pick him up from school besides herself or her husband. I feel blessed to have learned more about autism from him and I feel blessed to share these two amazing books with you. These books come from the REED Foundation for Autism. Inside each cover jacket it says: "The 'One Big Canvas' book series is an initiative of the REED Foundation for Autism. The series will feature a growing number of titles, characters, and storylines centered on understanding, accepting, and demonstrating kindness to all." The REED Foundation for Autism is committed to providing individuals with autism the opportunity to learn, live, work and thrive at every stage of their lives. Have you ever woken up feeling a bit off? That is how I feel this morning. I knew I wanted to write a review but I didn't sleep well and feel like I might be fighting the cold that is going around. When I looked at my review shelves I didn't turn to the books I was planning on reviewing but looked at books that inspire self care. I added a few that would involve being oneself and health and I created this grouping to share with you today. Most of the books are for tweens through adults but one book which we will start with is for ages 3 to 6. It is It's Okay to Be a Unicorn! by Jason Tharp. This book is not available for sale until February.

The Fairiest Fairy -- Book Review

Disclosure: Candlewick Press gave me a copy of these books free of charge to review. All opinions in my review are my own and I did not receive any other compensation. As in all my reviews I am providing links for your ease, but receive no compensation.

This week I have been on a fairy and fairy tale train. So I figured I would continue it with one of the sweetest fairy books around or almost around (it is being released on April 26th). We love this one!! It is The Fairiest Fairy by Anne Booth and illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw.
Betty is a fairy that just never gets things quite right. She was always messing up all of her fairy spells and behaviors, however she would always stop what she was suppose to do for fairy school and help an animal in need. Every year the fairy king and queen had a fairy ball and selected the fairiest fairy of all. Of course to be picked the fairy had to perform all the fairy tricks that Betty could not do quite right. However all the animals she stopped to help come to help her and she is chosen because Betty demonstrates how to be a friend and that helping others is what matters.

This adorable book is written in rhyme. The story is quite lovely and fun and the pictures are just adorable. They are colorful and yet simple. The book is a feel good book and really demonstrates the importance of helping others and being a good friend which is always a lesson a young child needs to be reminded of a few times. Hazel of course loves it. First it is about fairies and second it has a message that is very true to her. She is in many ways like Betty and for that I am proud. I hope you will check out this wonderful book!!
