Kids are always so interested in construction. The big trucks and bulldozers are exciting. It is fun to watch as a building goes up. Kids also love books with flaps, pull-tabs and more. Today I am sharing a book that combines these two. The book is Ultimate Spotlight: Home Construction by Anne Blanchard and illustrated by Didier Balicevic. It is coming out today and is recommended for ages 5+.
Today I get to share with you a new multicultural picture book (it is being released today). This book gives a chance to reflect on what home means to us. The book is Homegrown by DeAnn Wiley. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
My plans for this week were to take it easy and enjoy some time with friends and family. Unfortunately, Hazel came home with a cold last week and shared it with me over the weekend. Our Christmas plans were cancelled, and Hazel and I have been watching a Harry Potter marathon. I want to share a fun craft I made last week. I am going to hang in on our front door once I take the Christmas wreaths down.
With climate change the world is truly changing and we are seeing damage to homes. Whether it is wildfires, tornados, hurricanes or something else, home loss can be devastating to all but especially to children. For me it was simply my parents downsizing when I went to college. I was the youngest of three and it was time for them to sell the house and move to a smaller condo. Even without devastation of the home, there is a loss, but as Wallace Nichols and his daughter Wallace Grace Nichols share the home goes with you with all the memories.
