Yeti Is Not Ready for Game Over -- Picture Book Review

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

As a parent I have always worried about screentime. When Hazel was young and we had her going to a Waldorf School, we had agreed to no screentime however Steve and his mother were not good at keeping this agreement. There are so many studies showing that our kids are getting too much screentime, yet most parents still let them have it. Today we are sharing a new book about some of the benefits for everyone to take breaks from screens. The book is the second in the Yeti Is Not Ready Series. The book is Yeti Is Not Ready for Game Over by Leigh Anne Cater. It is recommended for ages 3 to 7.

About the Book:

Yeti Is Not Ready for Game Over is a part of the Yeti Is Not Ready collection.

No more screen time?! Yeti knows all about that! She's not ready to get off her tablet in this humorous picture book that is a gentle reminder that sometimes it's good to disconnect.

It is time to take a break from screens, but Yeti is NOT ready. She is so close to winning this fun game on her tablet! She doesn't have time for chores, lunch, or even friends! Can Yeti put the tablet down? Or will she find a way to stay glued to her screen?

With a little compassionate help from dad, YETI IS NOT READY FOR GAME OVER shows just how hard it can be to get off the screen -- and how good for our bodies, brains, and ideas taking a break can be, too! Perfect for those little readers that have a hard time saying good-bye to screen time.

From Me:

This is a humorous book. Kids will love the crazy flavors of ice cones Yeti is creating in her game. They sound disgusting!! Yeti doesn't want to take a break whether for lunch or playing with her friend. She is sure she is about to beat her game. Her father however makes her take the breaks. He even explains how stepping away from something and taking a break can help complete a task because you are feeling fresh and renewed. Yeti goes and plays with her friend and actually has the winning idea for the game. After that she truly understands how great breaks can be!

I love that Yeti is female and that the parent figure is the father. I also love the message of this book. In the end of the book when her father mentions how long she has been on her screen she encourages him to go outside with her. I think this is such an important thing to mention because kids learn screentime behavior from their parents and other adults around them. If you are doing something with your child but just on your phone, they are learning screentime is more important than together time. This book really emphasizes how fun other things can be and that it is important to put that screen down! It is perfect for reading at home, school and just about anywhere!
