Board Books That Teach

Disclosure: I was sent copies of these two books in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Boston is one of the host cities for the World Cup this year. We have been hearing about it for months. It is a perfect time to introduce young ones to soccer, and we are sharing a book that is perfect for that! Plus, another board book that is about counting and has airplanes! Starting with the soccer book, it is Hello, World! Soccer by Jill McDonald. It is recommended for ages 0 to 3. It is part of the Hello, World! series.

About the Book:

Cheer for the 2026 World Cup—hosted in the US, Canada, and Mexico—with a board book that teaches the littlest readers about soccer. From Hello, World!, a bestselling nonfiction series for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Kids can learn all about the popular sport of soccer in this cheerful and informative board book—with colors, shapes, sizes, and super-simple facts. ("The forwards play closest to the other team's net.")

Told in easy-to-understand terms alongside bright illustrations of soccer positions, moves, equipment, and gameplay, this sturdy book makes learning easy for little ones and offers useful prompts to help adults engage with the reader on each page.

It's a perfect way to share your love of soccer with your little ones while watching the game together.

From Me:

This book is a wonderful introduction to the game of soccer. It goes through the main parts of the game and even discusses how it is called football in some countries and soccer in others. It goes through the different positions as well as what each one does. It talks about the referee, uniforms and so much more. It is a book that will teach little ones about the game! It even talks about the World Cup!

This book is great to introduce the fun sport to a young child. I love the details and I love the timing for the World Cup. It is also just a great book to teach about the sport. It would be great for kids who older siblings or parents play the game or watch the game. I love the diversity in the illustrations and the simple explanations about the sport and how it is played.

Our next board book counts down and has different types of airplanes in it! It is 10 Little Airplanes by Annie Bailey and illustrated by Jeff Harter. It is also recommended for 0 to 3. It is part of the 10 Little Vehicles series.

About the Book:

Fans of airplanes can count down from ten to one as they follow ten different planes soaring through the air.

Ten little airplanes pass their preflight check. All clear to go—Yay! Time to start their trek.

Get ready to fly! On each page of this sturdy, action-packed board book, young readers can count down their favorite airplanes from ten to one. Along the way, flight fans will spot a glider, a firefighting plane, a vintage Boeing Super Stearman, a sea plane, and many more. With noisy words on every page, this is the perfect book to read aloud with your little aviator.

From Me:

The illustrations share different types of planes of all sorts of different types of planes. The rhyming words are fun and the planes do different things to leave the group. They start by getting checked at the gate and go from there.

This is the perfect board book for the young one who loves airplanes or any vehicle. The illustrations are colorful and cute and the words are fun. Plus, it teaches the readers about counting down from ten. It is a fun book that kids will want to read again and again. It also is the type of book the adult can help the kids look for different things in the illustrations. Talk about the different colors and types of planes. It is a fun book!
