Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Suzi K. Edwards to bring you this post.
Have you ever taken in a stray? I have but I was able to get it home to its actual owners several towns away. It was a stray cat. Today I get to share a book from a very special series of books about stray dogs and the kids who take them in. I am going to review Charlotte & Boo Boo by S. K. Edwards. It is part of The Doggos Series. And at the end of this post there is a giveaway for the whole series!!

From Me:
In Charlotte and Boo Boo, Charlotte is an eight-year-old girl who becomes very sick. Her grandmother is a doctor and comes to take care of her. Her grandmother inspires her to take care of others and in particular animals. Her grandmother gave her a doctor bag full of real doctor tools for her birthday. She loves trying to help hurt animals. And she really wants a dog. However her parents don't want to add the stress of taking care of a dog to their lives. Her mother buys her a stuffed dog. Then her father finds a sick puppy out in a storm one night and brings him home. They call her grandmother for advice and Charlotte cares for him. They take him to the vet and get him what he needs. Charlotte names him Boo Boo because he has many cuts and looks so thin. Within a few weeks he is healed and looking better under Charlotte's care. She even introduces him to her friend's dog friend, Butch. They walk the dogs together.
Charlotte's teacher is doing a special program for the students to teach them compassion. They are rewarded when they do something for others. All but the two class bullies get in the group who get the reward. The teacher finds a way for the bullies to even show some compassion. Charlotte mentions to her friend how the two bullies (who are brothers) are being nicer at the end of the school year. At the end of the book there is information about the kings and queens of compassion which include Nelson Mandela, Princess Diana, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandi, and Mother Theresa.
This book really shares the importance of caring for others and our world. I love the story of Charlotte and Boo Boo. The compassion Charlotte has for all animals and her love of dogs is special and so caring. I also love the theme of her class is compassion with her taking care of the various animals she has found. I also love that her father brings home the sick puppy and let's Charlotte care for him and keep him. There are so many messages in this book and Charlotte is such a special girl. Charlotte and her best friend, Simon, have been teased for their compassion. Now their teacher makes compassion an important part of the class. The entire message of being kind and caring for others is important. I also love how the book shares the kings and queens of compassion and show that real people can have compassion for others.
This book is perfect for animal lovers and especially dog lovers!! Kids will love reading Charlotte's story and I imagine the other books in the series are just as good. It is also the perfect book for the classroom or story time. It teaches about compassion as well as not being a bully. I would love to see this book used to start a campaign for compassion which our world really needs. Be sure to check out this fun book!
