Newly Released Children's Books Featuring Animals

Disclosure: I was sent copies of these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

August seems to be the month of children's books with animal themes. We have been sharing books about all sorts of animals: zebras, coyotes, hippopotamus, snails, dogs, and more! Today we are sharing two new books about various animals that were released this week. One is a board book and one is a lift, look and find picture book. We will start with the board book which is Hoot Hoot by Georgette. It is recommended for ages 0 to 3.

About the Book:

Whoo . . . who’s that? It’s time for bed, but lots of sounds fill the air. Is that an owl? Or a bat flapping its wings? Is that the pitter patter of mice scurrying through the house? Young readers will have fun finding out just who’s making those sounds in this visually appealing board book.
  • Simple story with just the right amount of suspense for little ones
  • Helps children identify animals and their sounds
  • Bold, eye-catching illustrations engage young children

Hoot Hoot is the perfect bedtime guess-who book for children.
  • Fun family read-aloud books
  • Books for children aged 0 to 3
  • Books for babies and toddlers

From Me:

In this short book a young boy is hearing sounds at bedtime. The book has holes in the pages to see the eyes of what is making the sounds. The boy hears the sounds of an owl, cats, bats, frog, and mice. The pages where the sounds are black with the eye holes. Then there is a picture of the animal making the sound. It is definitely meant to be a little spooky but then show that there is nothing to be afraid of which makes it a great bedtime story!

This book is perfect for bedtime and also for introducing the various animals and sounds they may make. It is fun with the eyes poking through the black pages. Kids will love guessing the animal and making the sounds as it is read. Plus there is a surprise at the end! I can see this being a favorite of young children.

The next book is a picture book with flaps and pages that fold out. It also gives animals to look for in the illustrations on each page. The book is Animals Everywhere: A Lift, Look and Find Book by  Stéphanie Babin and illustrated by Robert Barborini, Marie Caudry, Jessica Das, and Marie Kyprianou. It is recommended for ages 2 to 4.

From Me:

This book takes the readers through different ecosystems: the country, on ice, the forest, the farm, the rainforest, and the backyard. Each page has animals to look for in the beautiful illustrations as well as some information about the environment. There are also flaps to open up with even more animals for the same ecosystem. There are also small flaps to view the other layer. The book covers many animals and have quite a few details for some of them. My only complaint is that on the ice section has polar bears and penguins together. Besides that the book is fun and will be loved by young kids.

This book is perfect for an adult and child(ren) to look at together and search for the various animals. It also could be used to talk about the animals even more. I love that it shares the different environments with the various animals in them. Sometimes the animals are more specific like a swallow and others are not as specific like a duck. This is a fun book that kids will love looking at and learning about the environment and animals. A great thing to do after reading this book is to get the kids outside looking for some of the animals in real life. Can the kids find a bee, mouse, butterfly, ant, etc. in the backyard? If there is a forest near by, go for a hike and look for some of the animals like a robin, squirrel, deer, or fox. Or visit a local farm and try to see a rooster, pigs, chicken, cow, or goose. Look for the animals on the pages and then look for them in real life. It doesn't get much better!
