More Paper Bead Fun

It is Sunday again and time to share some of the crafts I have been doing. I am still focusing on paper beads like last week. This week I made some necklaces and experimented with the shape of beads as well as paper I am using. First I will share the necklaces from the beads I made last week.

You may have seen this one on my Facebook and/or Instagram pages. This was the first one I completed. I love how it came out and since I wear a lot of blue and pink it will go with many of my outfits!

I also finished this coral and green bead necklace. It has the round beads I was making last week as well. Both of these necklaces were made from pages of a 2017 calendar from Paper Source. This week I decided to try some different shapes. The first one I experimented with was the cone shape.

These are made with right triangles. You start rolling from the right angle and the hypotenuse will form the cone while you keep the leg side edge lined up. I think they would work well for earrings or a key chain. I have also seen some art done with this shape. The paper on these are also from the recycled calendars. I also made a few tubular beads. I experimented with the widths of the base of the isosceles triangles using the same paper.

I also bought some bead caps and wanted to see how they would work. I used simple rectangles to create these and then glued the caps on. The paper is scraps of Paper Source paper of maps of the world. I think I will make more of these and make them into a bracelet with silver beads in between them. You could do this with any map and would be a great way to remember a trip or place you lived.

The last type of bead I tried this week was the pillow bead. I discovered these beads over at Fun Crafts to Do at Home and her YouTube channel Rainbow Lane. I may try making some and threading them diagonally next week like in this video.

I tried making one with the calendar paper and then cut up some of my fine papers from Paper Source. I mixed three different papers that have matching colors and formed a necklace combining the pillow beads with the round beads as well as some gold beads to break them up.

I didn't want these paper beads to go all the way around the necklace with how they hang so I put it on a purple satin cord that I had leftover from one of Hazel's projects. It took awhile for me to figure out how to get one side of the cord lose to string them and then reattach it, but I was able to! Here is a picture of me modeling this necklace.

Those have been my paper bead experiments thus far. Next week I may try the pillow beads strung on the diagonal and am experimenting with the diablo shaped beads and possibly painting the beads made from recycled paper! Stay tuned!
