Saving the Sun -- Book Review with Craft Round-Up and Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

As fall is upon us, the days are getting shorter which means that the sun is shining for less each day. Today we are sharing a sweet book about the sun deciding to take a dip in the ocean, and it needing saving to light the world again. The book is Saving the Sun by Emma Pearl and illustrated by Sara Ugolotti. Along with my review there is a craft round-up to go with the book and a giveaway!

About the Book:

Saving the Sun Written by Emma Pearl and Illustrated by Sara Ugolotti

Ages 4+ | 32 Pages | Publisher: Pages Street Kids | ISBN-13: 9781645679882

Publisher’s Book Summary: After an especially sweltering day, the ocean sparkles and twinkles so invitingly that instead of slipping beneath the horizon, the sun plunges into the ocean itself.

When the sun sinks and loses its fire, Luna and Poppa’s yearly vacation on Summer Island suddenly goes dark. Luna knows the sun needs their help―the sky looks all wrong, and it’s neither day nor night! But it’s a big job to do all on their own.

To bring back daylight, they must think of creative solutions, seeking help from the local dolphins, monkeys, birds, and more. With the power of teamwork and imagination, can they find a way to return the sun to its rightful place, and set it ablaze once more?

This imaginative tale will enchant readers as Luna, Poppa, and their new friends of the sea, beach, and air rise to the challenge of fixing the sky once more and―literally―save the day.

About the Author:

Emma Pearl was excited to continue Luna and Poppa’s adventures from Mending the Moon (Page Street Kids) and thought it only logical the pair would save the sun next. Emma has traveled to over fifty different countries, including many beautiful tropical islands like the one in this story. Her love of storytelling began at a young age, spurred on by her relationship with her great uncle, renowned children’s author Roald Dahl. She now lives in New Zealand with her family and their one-eyed cat, Penelope.

From Me:

This book is so sweet. Little Luna is so excited to go on the annual trip where the sun always shines. The island is fun, and the sun is hot. While the sun is setting it notices the water and how cool it looks. The sun jumps into the water and of course the fires of the sun go out. Plus, it cannot get back on its track to make it around the world and set or rise. Luna runs to get her Poppa and together with the help of some animals they get the sun back on its track. It takes the help of even more animals to get the sun to be back on fire. This is a feel good story!

I love that it is Luna who comes up with an idea on how to save the sun and thus the world. Her Poppa helps her, but it is her ideas. Luna is so happy to be on Summer Island and even chuckles when the sun first takes a dip in the ocean. Then she realizes that without the sun there is no light and knows something must be done. Luna and her Poppa save the world with the help of dolphins, a whale, monkeys, and birds. They even create a breeze which eventually the wind helps too. I love that all of nature wanted to right the sun's mistake as the whole world needs the sun and its light.

This book is a fun one for story time, bedtime or a classroom discussion about the sun and why it is important to the world. It would also be perfect for introducing a unit on the sun or weather. I hope you will check it out! I know I really enjoyed it!
