From Me:

Chipper and his friends are off to summer camp. They are Arctic animals, but at summer camp they make friends with animals from all over the world including a giraffe, flamingo, koala, and frog. Each Arctic animal becomes besties with one of the other animals and tries to stay in touch with them but have some issues getting their messages across. The friends then come up with a plan to send their friends hugs around the world.

I love how cheerful this book is. Each pair of friends bond over an activity: contests, soaking in the sun, runs, and water play. I love how the animals have different interests just like kids. I also love how each friend tries to send the other friend something special from their lives and interests. The book portrays summer camp as a fun place to have an adventurous summer. It shows summer camp as a place to bond with new kids and make new friends. It also shares how kids want to stay in touch after summer camp and look forward to the next summer and getting together again.

Towards the end of the book there is a page with the Earth on it and the animals trying to share hugs from around the world. It is a perfect book to share during a unit on animals from around the world. It would be fun to look a the friends and where in the world they can be found. It also would be fun to have pen pals to share messages with. Or have the kids try to create hugs to send around the world or to their parents using paper, glitter, glue, etc. This is a fun book that has so many things you can do with it.
