One of the first things children learn about is emotions. And what baby does not love to see faces and especially his or her own!! Today I am going to share two books about emotions for slightly different aged children. The first is a board book for babies. It is Making Faces: A First Book of Emotions by Abrams Appleseed. This book is being released May 2, 2017. You can pre-order it today though!

It is a board book for babies and toddler who are just recognizing emotions on faces. The book is full of baby faces displaying different feelings. The book is simple and shows a large face of the emotion (like happy) and asks the child to make a similar face and then asks the reader to find the baby in a group of six with that emotion. It has the emotions happy, sad, angry, surprised and silly and has a mirror on the last page for the child to see him or herself.  It is the perfect book for introducing emotions and expressions to a toddler and a fun book for a baby to see other faces!
Our next book is for older kids who are exploring emotions as well. It is Today I Feel...: An Alphabet of Feelings by Madalena Moniz. This book goes through the alphabet with different feelings like adored, heroic, tall, victorious, and yucky. The left page of a two page spread has the letter in an artistic way to go with the feeling and picture on the right side and has the word. Then there is a picture on the right side illustrating the word.

Each of these books help adults talk to children about emotions and how they are feeling. And probably even more importantly how others are feeling. Reading other people's emotions can be very hard for children and these books will help them understand the different emotions and make this a bit easier. They remind me of the emotion charts you can find all over the place. We have one like this one on our refrigerator (it is from Hazel's therapist). I found this one here.

So how are you feeling today?
