Make Your Own Zoo -- Crafty Weekends

We are definitely having a crafty weekend at my house. Hazel and I finished up some of the fun zoo animals from Make Your Own Zoo by Tracey Radford and worked on some Christmas gifts as well as doing the free craft at Lakeshore Learning.

This post however will focus on our zoo animals and this great book. Hazel was so excited to get started on these. She actually tried to make some herself, but got a little confused. It is definitely kid projects but a six-year-old needs some help with them. We of course had to make the flamingo.

She probably could have made this one by herself. It was pretty easy. We did not make the pool it is in, but the book provides the scenery as well. We made the chimpanzee and the baboon as well. They are very similar with different heads.

The book provides templates for the faces and such. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. We used an egg carton for our cardboard in all three of these, but a cereal box would have been easier for the faces. Hazel also started the crocodile, but I did not finish it for her yet. We also worked on the eagle, but never painted the bottom side of it.

This book provides many great projects from various animals for a zoo including an aquarium.  They also include projects for trees, pools, grass and the zoo entrance. The details of the animals and the range of types is wonderful. We love this book!! It is the perfect book for an animal loving kid who also loves to craft! We will be making more of these animals to use as decorations at her Wild Kratts birthday party!!
