Summer is officially here! Summer is a time many people find time to just relax. It usually means more outdoor activities and more time with family and friends. Who is ready for those hot days where you do something outside and then find a way to cool off? Join the animals of Acorn Village as they enjoy a beautiful summer day!! We are sharing A Cozy Summer Day by Eliza Wheeler today. It is recommended for ages 2 to 5. I would guess some older kids would enjoy it as well.
About the Book:
New York Times bestselling author Eliza Wheeler’s companion to A Cozy Winter Day welcomes readers into sun-dappled scenes of a cozy summer in Acorn Village, bringing the joys of summertime to refreshingly vivid life. The animals of Acorn Village love spending summer days together. As soon as the sun comes up, they slip into shorts and sunsuits and run outside to enjoy an abundance of cozy activities, whether it’s putting up a playhouse, snacking in the strawberry patch, partaking in a picnic, or napping in a leafy nook. And when the day heats up, who can resist cooling off in a sparkling swimming hole before drying off in a cozy sun-kissed towel. When the sun disappears from the sky, it’s time to gather round the campfire to share stories and marshmallows and fall asleep under the stars.
Eliza Wheeler’s enchanting illustrations capture all the magic of long summer days outside, and readers will feel right at home as they pore over each and every cozy, comforting scene.
From Me:
What are your favorite summer activities? Gardening, building sandcastles, drinking fresh-squeezed lemonade, camping, campfires, swimming, tubing? This book has it all!! When a beautiful summer day arrives the animals of Acorn Village are ready. They each start their day with an activity including gardening, playing, hanging out laundry, yardwork, berry picking and more! When the sun is high and the heat is strong, the animals find shade and cool off. Then they gather for a delicious picnic dinner which includes some of the fresh vegetables from the garden, the berries that were picked, the homemade ice cream and lemonade. Then they head out to their friends' swimming hole. They make their way in tubes and floats and then get their swimming in! They head home as the sun is setting and gather around a campfire for stories and marshmallows. Finally they find their spot to sleep under the stars and one of them says let's do it again tomorrow!
Personally, I have always loved summer. It is a time where we move a bit slower because of the heat. We tend to gather more with friends and family. We do things like go to the beach, go for a hike, garden, and swim. This book has a bit of it all. The adults do yardwork and more in the morning while the youngest play. Then they find a way to cool off which can even include a nap. The picnic comes next which includes eating the summer harvest and then a fun tubing trip to the swimming hole with more friends. This book has all of the things we love about summer with adorable animals doing them! Kids are going to love it!!
This book is the perfect read for a summer day or summer bedtime story. It reminds the reader of the joys of summer and how the dog days of summer can be just as cozy as those cold winter ones!
