From Me:
The question I have is can you read the book without singing the song? I know I have trouble. The words are quite literally the lyrics to the song. The illustrations however are all about diverse friendships. Various races, ages, and abilities are represented in the pictures! There are even some references to The Golden Girls both with the people in the illustration and the band at the beginning being called The Golden Kids. The illustrations are full of kids having fun, family and friends hugging and supporting one another and so much more. There are soccer and various kids' forms of transportation as well as a play. Some of the characters are repeated throughout the book and it is just a lot of fun!
At the back of the book is information about the song and how it became so popular. It even talks about Cher singing it in honor of Betty White. There is an illustration that looks like Betty throughout the book too. The inside covers also have illustrations of friendship bracelets. An activity to go with the book is of course making friendship bracelets! This book is perfect for reading aloud, talking about what makes a good friendship or gifting to a friend as a thank you or the perfect gift for a fan of The Golden Girls. It is a fun book that just shares the love of having a friend.
