New Board Books with Special Features

Board books are often thought of just for babies and toddlers. However, board books are also the books that have lift flaps, pop-up art, and more fun features that can be ruined pretty quickly by a young child, so they are better for older kids who understand how to be gentle. Today we are sharing two new board books with special features. One is recommended for ages 0 to 3 and the other is for ages 6+. We will start with the one for 0 to 3. It is Clickety Clack: Clack-Clack, Little Crab! by Amy Blay.

From Me:

The story follows Little Crab from his home and checking on various friends. He is not sleepy and wants to play. He visits friends on land and then heads for the water. Each page has a handle to pull and when it is pulled not only does the picture change, but it makes a clack-clack sound. The handles feel very sturdy and seem like they will last quite a while even with little ones pulling hard on them. The corners of the book are rounded so the littlest readers won't be hurt by a sharp point when they chew and feel it. The book is a wonderful introduction to the beach and ocean. It talks about the tide and has Little Crab visiting a snail, a clown fish, a starfish, and coral. There is a surprise in the coral for Little Crab and the readers! 

This is a fun book that little ones will enjoy. It is interactive and gives kids something to do when it is read to them. I can see them enjoying pulling the handles and hearing the sound of the crab's claws. It is a wonderful book to introduce the beach and ocean and would also be perfect for a getting ready for a trip to the beach.

Our next book is a puzzle book for ages 6+ but is a board book. It is Plant Pandemonium! by Camille Pichon. Don't let the board book fool you. This book is definitely for older kids though younger ones may have fun with the moving parts but I can see them destroying it quickly.

From Me:

This book has five double paged puzzles. On the first side are the challenges in different levels for the reader to try. Each one has nine challenges. The other page has an interactive puzzle with moving parts. There are ones where you form worms like the picture on the cover as well as a water lily carousel where you have to have only certain pictures showing through the holes and colorful butterflies to arrange in different patterns, the plant page shown above with trying to create the different plants and a vegetable jumble with moving vegetable pictures. Kids are going to love the moveable parts and find the puzzles challenging. It will keep them entertained for quite a while and also teach different skills.
