Newly Released Board Book Roundup

Disclosure: I was sent copies of these books in order to provide honest reviews. All opinions are my own.

Board books are great for different ages. Babies can't harm them too much and as kids get older, they can handle the flaps and such. Today we are sharing a roundup of board books. They range in recommended ages from 0 to 7. A couple are being rereleased and the others are new this month. The first book is 123s of Kindness at Bedtime by Patricia Hegarty and illustrated by Summer Macon. It is part of the Books of Kindness Collection and is recommended for ages 0 to 3.

About the Book:

123s of Kindness at Bedtime is a part of the Books of Kindness collection.

Celebrate kindness with this sweet touch-and-feel board book from the bestselling Books of Kindness series. Perfect for counting down to bedtime with your little one!

Ten little friends have had a busy day.
Nine toys are left as they tidy things away.
Eight drowsy friends brush their teeth with care.
Seven shiny bubbles glisten in the air.

Get ready for bedtime with an adorable cast of animal friends in this irresistible touch-and-feel board book! Featuring a unique tactile element on every other page—including shiny bubbles, a soft blanket, and a sparkly moon—this book invites little ones to experience the story in a hands-on, multisensory way while celebrating kindness in each illustrated scene.

From Me:

Numbers, fun and getting ready for bed! Plus add the sensory of the touch and feel part of the book. This book has it all. The cute animal friends are playing, cleaning up and getting ready for bedtime. I love that it is counting down and can be a countdown to bedtime. The story is full of kindness and cooperative animals. The touch and feel are fun sensory fabrics and finishes. Kids will love this book!

The book is full of adorable illustrations. The countdown goes down to falling asleep under the shiny moon and stars. It is the perfect book for bedtime story time but also for teaching to countdown numbers from ten. It can be used for story time in classes when learning to count and countdown. It can also be enjoyed any time even though the end is about bedtime as it is about kids (animals) cleaning up and getting ready.

Our next book is also recommended for ages 0 to 3, but it has flaps to lift or animals to list. It is Where Are You, Baby? by Elena Selena.

About the Book:

A delightful and reassuring lift-the-flap book. “Where are you, little one?” each animal parent asks, as they play a hide-and-seek game with their baby. Lift the flaps to reveal just where baby rabbit, baby lion, baby bird—and many others!—have been hiding.
  • Includes flaps of varying shapes and sizes
  • Colorful and charming illustrations engage young children
  • Encourages parent-child bonding
Children who enjoy Where Are You, Baby? will also enjoy Peekaboo Who?
  • Fun family read-aloud books
  • Books for children aged 0 to 3
  • Books for babies and toddlers

From Me:

This is a sweet and simple book. It shares an adult animal asking where the baby animal is. If you flip the adult animal the baby animal is there saying it is here and referring to the parent by a common name like mommy, daddy, mama, and papa. I love that the parent name matches the animal. The lion is male and the baby refers to him as daddy.

The book is fun with the flaps, and it is a bit of hide and seek. Kids will enjoy flipping the flaps and finding the baby animals. They will also enjoy guessing the names. It is perfect for the younger child who will be entertained by the action. The words are very simple and will probably be memorized by kids pretty quickly. It is a fun book for one-on-one reading.

Our next book is recommended for ages 2 to 4. It involves mazes and figuring out how to arrange some pieces to complete the maze. The book is Ready for Mazes: Baby Animal Mazes by Susann Hoffman.

About the Book:

Solve the mazes to help the baby animals! Baby Duck has to catch up with its family, Baby Bear wants to get some honey, the sleepy baby foxes want to get home to their cozy den—and more adventures fill the pages of this interactive board book. Designed for kids aged 2 and up, this sturdy book includes maze pieces to complete the paths so the little critters can go on their merry way.
  • An age-appropriate introduction to mazes
  • Adorable illustrations engage young children
  • Helps develop problem-solving and fine motor skills
Baby Animal Mazes offers young children a satisfying first experience with mazes.
  • Fun game and activity books
  • Books for children aged 2-4
  • Books for toddlers and preschool children

From Me:

This book has three pieces of maze that are double sided with the same maze design on each side but in different colors. These three circle pieces fit into the holes in each maze/page. The mazes have one through three holes in the maze. The reader has to choose which piece goes where and then complete the maze to help a baby animal. It is a fun book!

I love how this book helps develop kids' visual skills. They have to pick which and how the circle pieces fit into the mazes. They also get to decide whether to use the green or brown side of each piece depending on the maze. It is fun and perfect for those "I'm bored" moments at home or in a classroom. It is fun and kids will want to try the different mazes over and over.

Our last two books are being re-released. The first of the two is recommended for ages 3 to 6. It is People Are Wild by Margaux Meganck. It is a book that changes the point of view.

About the Book:

An inviting and inventive classic-in-the-making about learning to have compassion for every living thing, gorgeously illustrated by a rising star in the picture book world.

Wild creatures come in all shapes and sizes. They can be playful or loud or smelly or curious or cute—just like kids!

People Are Wild turns the tables and asks what animals think of us. We may not always see eye to eye, but the more we understand each other, the better we’re able to live in harmony.

Readers who loved They All Saw a Cat or Don't Let Them Disappear will appreciate this unique perspective on the animal kingdom.

From Me:

How do animals see people? This book has animals describing people. They are wild so you shouldn't get too close. They are loud, messy, smelly, and strange. They are also unique and cuddly and so much more. The young elephant wants to keep the child, but her mama explains that wild things should be wild.

It is such a cute book that introduces point of view or perspective. I love how the book compares animals and humans. After all there are many differences and many similarities. It is a wonderful reminder that we should let wild animals stay wild and free.

Our final book is from actress and singer Hilary Duff and is a love letter to her son sharing the dreams she has for him. It is My Little Sweet Boy by Hilary Duff and illustrated by Kelsey Garrity-Riley. It is recommended for ages 3 to 7.

About the Book:

Actress, singer, mother, and New York Times bestselling author of My Little Brave Girl Hilary Duff returns with an inspiring picture book filled with the dreams she has for her own son. A perfect parent-child read-aloud!

The sky has so much to show you, my little sweet boy.
Let every color, shape, and season fill your world.

Inspiring young boys to be as gentle as they are strong, this beautiful book explores the tumbles and triumphs of childhood. New York Times bestselling author Hilary Duff fills the pages with wishes for her own son and encourages boys everywhere to embrace all that life has to offer them.

From Me:

This is an inspiring book. It reminds the young boy to live in the moment and enjoy nature. It talks about letting his light shine as well as ask questions and listen to the answers. It is a book that is letting him know to grow in the best ways and to trust his instincts. It is sweet and beautiful.

The book is full of diverse boys and people. It is an inspiring book to give to sons and boys to help them navigate the world. It reminds them to feel their emotions and that it is okay to cry. It is a magical world to explore and learn and to take care of others as well as the world. It is truly a wonderful book and would be great for Easter baskets, gifts and so much more!
