As we are getting ready for the holidays, I wanted to do a bit of holiday sewing. Tonight I am reviewing a great quilt book. It is Sew Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Mary Hertel.

This book gives patterns to make 16 eight-inch paperpieced squares and turns them into all sorts of fun projects from tree skirts and stockings to potholders and placemats. There is a bit of everything in it for a whimsical holiday.
I love the added touches like the pom pom on the elf's hat. Isn't it cute?

I wanted to try one so I could let you know how the instructions are. It has been awhile since I have paperpieced. I printed out the instructions and followed them to remember the steps. They were very clear and easy to follow. The squares are broken into different sections which you need a copy for each one so you can add the 1/4 inch seam allowance to the picture. I did Polar Bear 2 since it was Hazel's favorite. I think we will make it into a pillow for her.

I didn't have the correct buttons so we substituted pony beads for the eyes. I love how it came out. The instructions were very easy to follow and the patterns were easy to use. I forgot how much I love paperpiecing. Paperpiecing ensures more sharp corners and intersections. This book is a fun way to learn it and to add some fun to your holiday decor and gifts! I hope you will check it out! For more Christmas sewing and quilting (and crafting) be sure to check out these reviews: Half Yard Christmas, Handmade Christmas, and Mini Knitted Christmas.
