1880 Mary and Laura Doll Dress -- Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Hazel and I discovered the Little House on the Prairie re-runs on Hallmark Channel awhile back (and unfortunately they are not on anymore). She fell in love. We also started reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. She loves them!! She also wants a dress and bonnet like Laura's for herself and her dolls. Well in August Pixie Faire's Friday Freebie happened to be Thimbles and Acorns 1880 Mary and Laura 16" and 18" Doll Clothes pattern. Since September is National Sewing Month I figured it was time to do some sewing and decided to make this dress. I found some green fabric with a small print on it that would work in my collection. Hazel is determined that Laura always wears green though I keep pointing out that she isn't wearing green on the show.

Now if you do not know about Pixie Faire or their amazing Friday Freebie, let me tell you. Pixie Faire is a great place to go for any doll clothes pattern as well as supplies to make them (zippers, trims, etc. in the correct tiny size). If you sign up for their e-mails they send you an email every Friday with a link to the pattern that is free for that Friday only. It is amazing!! I got this pattern for free and it normally costs $10.99. They also sometimes send out an email with a link to a place to vote which of four patterns should be the Friday Freebie for the week.

Now this pattern is designed from the picture above which is from around 1880 the year of The Long Winter. (Thimble and Acorns has a pattern for Carrie's dress as well.)  Mary and Laura's Dress pattern was rated as Easy and it is. I started it late last night and finished it this afternoon starting after a late lunch.
Hazel could not wait to get the dress on her doll, Chrysanthemum. I braided her hair and put it up for the photos.
The instructions were easy to follow and I love how it came out. I also love that the patterns are printable in full size!! I can honestly recommend this pattern!! Pixie Faire also offers Pixie Packs Collections with the supplies needed to make these dresses. I did not go this route and used supplies I already had, but think it is a great option!! I cannot wait to try another pattern from Pixie Faire.
