Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

What do you think of when you hear someone lives on a farm? Do you think of a red bard with animals? Or perhaps big fields of grains and vegetables? Today we are sharing a fun book all about different types of farms. The book is If You Live on a Farm by Kari Ann Gonzalez and illustrated by Marie Hermansson. It is recommended for ages 4 to 10.

Publisher's Summary:

What would life be like if you lived on a farm?

And what kind of farm would it be?
A flower farm or a dairy farm?
An aquaponics farm or an alpaca farm?
An orange grove or a mushroom farm?

What would life be like if you lived on a farm? Would you sway with a rainbow of petals in the breeze, or play peek-a-boo with a pop of mushrooms in the cool, dark? Written in beautiful, lyrical language, this gorgeously illustrated picture book features an eclectic variety of modern farming and supportive backmatter that are sure to delight and inspire young readers.

From Me:

This book shares how different farms can be. It is a diverse book that shows farms growing flowers, fish, mushrooms, Christmas trees, animals, vegetables, grains and more. Many are far from that image of the "traditional" farm. The words are simple and the illustrations are beautiful. The last page of the story shares a map of the United States with illustrations of the different types of farms across and around it. At the end of the book is an activity of re-growing plants from kitchen scraps. It shares about the diversity of farming and the sustainability of farms through crop rotation, solar and wind power and more!

This book is perfect for a classroom that is studying food, where food comes from, growing plants, or perhaps going on a field trip to a farm. It is amazing to think about the different types of farms across the country and even more amazing to think about what is being farmed around the world!

This book is also just a wonderful book sharing where some of our food comes from. We have all heard of things like farmed catfish on a restaurant menu, but have you thought about how that farm looks and works? This book is here to get kids thinking beyond "Old MacDonald's Farm" and the traditional farms they see in books to ones that are growing different foods, practicing sustainability and thinking outside the box. It is a wonderful book for classrooms, libraries and for at home to talk about where food comes from and learn about how unique farms can be just like people are unique!
