Arctic Adventure: A Tundra Tale -- Book Review and Arctic Animal Craft Roundup

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Being back at school this week has been trying. I have been exhausted most nights and haven't been able to share books and more much with you. Today I am going to share a newly released book that is perfect for the winter and animal lovers! It is Arctic Adventure: A Tundra Tale by Jyoti Rajan Gopal and illustrated Alexandra Cook. It is recommended for ages 3 to 6. After the review there is a roundup of arctic animal crafts to go with the book.

About the Book:

A gorgeously illustrated lyrical journey through the majestic Arctic landscape following a pair of arctic foxes and a human mother and child on their intersecting adventures.

Little Fox peeks out from her den.
Biting cold nips her nose.
Yip, yip, she calls,
as Mama Fox surveys the land.

Little Fox wriggles in delight.
She is ready to explore.

When Little Fox awakens one cold arctic morning, she is ready to explore the sights and sounds of the arctic with Mama Fox. Little Fox loves the click click click of the reindeer herd and the groooooar of the walrus. But new creatures are following her and Mama on their trek through the frozen tundra. As the storm rolls in, will these new creatures prove to be unexpected friends?

This beautifully illustrated picture book will delight young readers and parents alike. In addition to the atmospheric text, this book also includes extensive backmatter that discusses the science of the Arctic Tundra, information about climate issues, and tips for how readers can help.

From Me:

The book is a sweet story. It has some main characters--a fox pup and her mother and a child and her mother. However, throughout the book are various animals like walruses, reindeer, polar bear, narwhal, bowhead whale, and rock ptarmigan. The words describe the scenery and climate of the arctic tundra. The fox pup and her mother are out exploring as are the people. When a storm comes both the pup and girl get lost from their mothers but are with each other. They comfort each other until the storm ends and the mothers find them.

The illustrations are multimedia and reminiscent of Eric Carle's style. They help share the feeling of the tundra. The colors are whites, greys, blues and purples and then the northern lights are also pictured. I love how this book is focused more on the foxes than the people but find ways to connect them with each other as well as the other animals. At the end of the book there is information about the Arctic tundra as well as the animals in the book and the Rembrandt van Rijn which is pictured in the book and a small bit about Svalbard, the main town where the humans live. This book shares a bit of everything about the Arctic. It is a perfect book to introduce the Arctic or to use in younger classes to teach about the Arctic and its inhabitants.

It seems appropriate to share this diamond painting I just finished.

Arctic Animal Craft Roundup

To go with this book a craft of one of the arctic animals in the book or not seems appropriate. I asked my fellow bloggers and looked at past Sharing Saturdays to share some with you. The most popular animal is the polar bear so there is a separate collage of polar bear crafts.
