Jumper - New Picture Book Sharing a Day in the Life of a Backyard Jumping Spider

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Yesterday I shared the first of three spider themed posts. It was a fun facts and craft round-up post. It is meant to go with today's post as well as a future one. I am sharing with you today a new picture book that shares the life of a jumping spider. The book is Jumper by Jessica Lanan. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

From the Publisher:

From critically acclaimed illustrator of The Lost Package comes a bold nonfiction story following a day in the life of a backyard jumping spider - meticulously researched and utterly charming.

What if you were small as a bean,
Could walk on the walls and ceiling,
Sense vibrations through your elbows,
And jump five times your body length?

That is Jumper's world.

Open this book to discover the vibrant, hidden life of a backyard jumping spider.

From Me:

This book is a sweet and informative book. I love how the young girl is watching and sharing the life of Jumper. The book gives the reader the point of view of the small spider. It gets the reader's imagination going to think about how different life as a small spider may be from his or her own. It shares details about the spiders from how they sense vibrations in their elbows and knees which is a way of hearing. It shares the predators as well as prey. There are so many interesting facts shared in the story.

The book also features a page that folds out to give the vision of the size of things for Jumper. At the end of the book is more information about Jumper including some of the characteristics shared in the story. There are details about their feet, silk, vision, and more! This book is perfect for kids who love bugs and spiders, or for a spider lesson.

The illustrations are also detailed and beautiful. The book is fun and informative and could be the start of a lesson on spiders with some of the crafts I shared in my spider craft round-up. I hope you will check them out! Be sure to also check out the spider themed new STEM middle grades novel.
