Fall & Halloween/Thriller Mysteries for Different Ages

It is after Labor Day, so that means fall is about to begin. I can feel it in the air even though the leaves haven't really started to change yet. We have three new fall/Halloween/thriller mysteries for different ages perfect for the upcoming season! Two are for the younger to middle grades and the third is a young adult book. We will start with the second book in the Squirrel Lock Holmes series. It is a graphic novel style book for early readers. We reviewed the first one here. The second one is Squirrel Lock Holmes: Mystery at the Corn-y Maze by Ashley Belote. It is recommended for ages 6 to 9.

Do you have a little one who loves board books and interactive books? Today we are sharing four new ones! Three of which are being released today!! One of them is about a Netflix movie that came out this summer, Swapped. We will start with that one. It is Ollie's Big Adventure by Maggie Testa. It is recommended for ages 2 to 5.

It has been a while since I shared a young adult novel. Today we are sharing one that deals with grief, science, pets, family, ethics, morals, and so much more! It is also perfect for the start of school as high school football is a huge part of this book. The book is Golden Boy by A. J. Symon. It is recommended for ages 12 and higher. 

Diverse Picture Books About Spending Time with Your Kids

The most important thing we can do for our kids is spend quality time with them. Today we are sharing three new picture books about parents spending time with their children. Two of them work on building kids' imagination and two are about bringing children to work. The first book is Indigo Hands by Sita Singh and illustrated by Maithili Joshi. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

Music is so important to our lives. The beat can help with movement. Music can affect mood and so much more. Today we are sharing a diverse picture book about a group of kids who know the importance of music for their special community festival and find a way to bring music to their festival's new location. The book is Sounds of Trash by Tina Athaide and illustrated by Neha Rawat. It is recommended for ages 4 to 7 and is part of the Steamworks Books Collection.

Mrs. Peanuckle's Space Alphabet -- Board Book Review with Craft Roundup

There are many alphabet books out there. They all have different themes and different styles. Some are about the letters giving them life and personalities. Some are themed picking words that begin with each letter. Today we are sharing a board book that is the second type, and it is actually part of a series of themed alphabet books. The book is Mrs. Peanuckle's Space Alphabet by Mrs. Peanuckle and illustrated by Jessie Ford. It is recommended for ages 0 to 3. Sharks in Kansas -- Picture Book Review

What did North America look like 85 million years ago? We shared a book about there being rhinos in Nebraska 12 million years ago. However, 85 million years ago there was a sea going through the center of North America. Today we share a picture book that shares about the various animals that lived in central North America 85 million years ago as well as what happened to them and how we know. The book is Sharks in Kansas by Melissa Stewart and illustrated by Becca Stadtlander. The book is recommended for ages 4 to 8. And it is out just in time for Shark Week later in July!

There are so many amazing books coming out these days. Today we are sharing four--two board books and two picture books that are being released today! Each book has its own lesson from STEAM lessons, friendships, and rhyming words there is fun packed into these books! We will start with the STEAM board books! The first is Manny Matches the Weather by Jenny Lacika and illustrated by Antonieta Muñoz Estrada. It is part of the STEAMWORKS series and is available in English and Spanish. It is recommended for ages 0 to 3.

Earth Day is coming. People often try different crafts and such to celebrate with kids. I like books that help us teach kids about nature and taking care of it. Today we are sharing a new picture book about the relationship between trees. The book is called The Mother Tree by Sybil Rosen and illustrated by Nancy Carpenter. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

Ultimate Discovery T. Rex -- a Board Book with Sliding Tabs Review

Calling all dinosaur lovers!! Young kids seem to go through a dinosaur phase. I know several who are in them. Their moms work at our school and during teacher workdays they often have a play date, and the hallway becomes what we lovingly call Jurassic Park. They can tell you all about the different dinosaurs! Today we are sharing a board book with sliding tabs to make the dinosaur move about the ever-popular T. rex. It is Ultimate Discovery: T. rex by Raphaële Glaux and illustrated by Amélie Falière. It is recommended for ages 0 to 3 but I would say probably through age 5 will enjoy it!

Are you doing a solar system or space unit and want to add some fun? Stacy McAnulty has an amazing series of picture books that are humorous and full of information. Today we get to share the newest one: Venus! Fierce and Fabulous written by Stacy McAnulty and illustrated by Stevie Lewis. It is the ninth book in Our Universe series. We have reviewed several of the books in the series and can say these books are amazing resources for studying space but also just fun books to read for story time! The series is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

We have been back to school for a couple of weeks now and Hazel has been back for one week. Even college students seem to be heading back now. Today we have two books for young readers that are educational or school themed. They are both humorous! We will start with the educational one. It is Our Solar System! A Stellar Neighborhood by Stacy McAnulty and illustrated by Stevie Lewis. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

Winter is in full swing. There is even talk of a storm hitting here this weekend. My mind is thinking spring already!! Spring when there are new baby animals. Many lower elementary classes hatch some type of eggs in the spring. Have you ever wondered about how a bird hatches from an egg? Most kids wonder this at some point. Today we are sharing a new non-fiction picture book that shares how a gosling gets out of the egg. The book is How to Hatch: A Gosling's Guide to Breaking Free by Sara Holly Ackerman and illustrated by Galia Bernstein. It is recommended for ages 3 to 7.

Last week we shared some fun Christmas books. Today we are adding to our collection of new holiday picture books with our third roundup. Some of these books will be familiar and others are new! We will start with one of the ones that will sound familiar. It is The War Is Over! by Brad Booker, Dave Mullins and Sean Ono Lennon and illustrated by Max Narciso. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.

Life is hard when your family moves all the time. It is hard to make friends and to really get to know someone. Today I get to share a new middle grade novel that is about a sixth grader whose family finally settled down after years of moving. Sixth grade brings all sorts of new things--new teachers, new subjects, the same bullies and so much more. The book is Georgia Watson and the 99 Percent Campaign by Sara F. Shacter. It is recommended for 9- to 12-year-olds.

I always love learning about women who we may not have heard of but are famous in their own right. I really love learning about female mathematicians and scientists who have made a difference in our world. And although we always focus on women in March for Women's History Month I also feel it is important that we learn about them all year long. After all women do make up at least 50% of the world population. Today I am sharing a new book (released today) that is about a famous scientist. The book is Rock Star: How Ursula Marvin Mapped Moon Rocks and Meteorites by Sandra Neil Wallace and illustrated by Nancy Carpenter. This book is recommended for ages four to eight.

So, this week's summer theme is rocks. Let's face it you can find rocks just about everywhere--the beach, a river, a lake, your backyard, etc. Every year we do some craft from our treasures found at the beach but not everyone has a beach to go to each year. So, rocks are a perfect substitute plus there is the STEM behind rocks. I know digging in my garden I often find many rocks. Today I am going to share two new books with you (one released today) as well as a roundup of other rock resources and crafts. The first book is a picture book that teaches readers all about rocks, minerals, gems, and fossils in a fun way. The book is Talking Rocks and Minerals: Fact-Packed Guide to Geology by Paige Towler and illustrated by Matthew Carson. It is recommended for ages 6 to 9.
