What is special to a mother on her birthday? If a gift from a child is not what she expected, does she mind? Today we are sharing a sweet book about the special bond between mother and child. The book is Mama Won't Mind by Kathleen Bahr and illustrated by Ramona Kaulitzki. It is recommended for ages 3 to 7.

About the Book:

Join a young raccoon on his journey to find the perfect gift for Mama in this timeless tale with stunning art from a New York Times bestselling illustrator.

Henry picks Mama's favorite flower for her birthday surprise. "A sunflower always makes Mama smile!" On his way home, Henry knows Mama won't mind when he shares little pieces of her sunflower with his friends--and when he uses her sunflower to solve unexpected problems. But then Henry has nothing left, so he comes up with an unusual present to give her instead. Will Mama mind?

With lyrical text, this gentle book celebrates a gift from the heart and the loving bond between mother and child.

From Me:

In this sweet book, Henry is excited to get his mother the perfect birthday gift. He runs to the field full of sunflowers--her favorite flower. He finds a great one and starts to head home. However, on the way he gives up parts of his sunflower. A bird wants some petals to line the nest; a chipmunk is hungry and wants some seeds and then the rain and wind destroy the flower. What is Henry to do now. He has nothing left. What will he give Mama now? He comes up with a creative solution and Mama loves it!

I love the creativity in this book. Henry is full of generosity. He knows his Mama won't mind if he shares the parts of the flower with friends. He knows his Mama wants him to stay safe. When he has nothing left he creates his own sunflower art for Mama and it is unique and fun.

I love how this book shows how mothers tend to love anything a child creates and gifts them. Henry's craft sunflower is unique, and it shows he cares. Mama loves it. I would guess all mamas have gotten a unique homemade gift from their kids. It is a fun book showing kids that they can be creative, kind and loved. It is a wonderful tale showing how moms love homemade gifts that come from the heart. It is the perfect gift for Mother's Day, story times and really any day!
