Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Sherry Ellis to bring you this post.

This year is a special year for the United States. It marks the 250th birthday of our country! The day this post is published is Patriots' Day in Massachusetts. That means this long weekend there will be re-enactments of the battles in Lexington and Concord. And as any Bostonian knows, the Boston Marathon will be run. Yesterday was the official 251st anniversary of the "shot heard around the world." Today we are sharing a fun and patriotic book about a boy whose birthday is July 4th. The book is Happy Birthday to US! by Sherry Ellis and illustrated by Nina Hvozdzeva. Throughout the post there will be links to some fun patriotic crafts and activities and at the end there is a giveaway!!

From Me:

In this sweet book a young boy explains how his town has a parade for his birthday every year. When he was younger he thought it was just for his birthday but now he understand his birthday is the 4th of July and the parade and other events are actually for the birthday of the United States. He is excited to share with the readers everything he has learned as well as the various activities of the day!

Patriotic Necklaces and Fireworks Crowns are Perfect to Wear to a Parade!

In the parade he learns about Lady Liberty, patriots, and the Declaration of Independence. After the parade they head to the park for snacks and more fun. I love how the boy's birthday celebration is melded into the town's 4th of July celebration. It is something he gets to do each year on his birthday and cake in the park sounds perfect!

His day ends with fireworks of course. It is a day of celebration and the young boy explains how the celebration is for his birthday as well as the country's. It is such a sweet book and is well written. The illustrations are fun and capture the feeling of celebration that is the Fourth of July. The rhyming verses are perfect for younger readers to enjoy and I love how there is a bit of history shared in the words. The main message is about how the United States is celebrating freedom, bravery and courage. At the end of the book there a page sharing "Why We Celebrate the Fourth of July."

Add some fireworks to your decorations with a salad spinner fireworks, pipe cleaner sparkler, fireworks over Lady Liberty card and rockets centerpiece. Plus be sure to check out our post on fun facts about fireworks!

It is such a sweet story and perfect for the BIG celebration year! This book is perfect for any family who is celebrating Independence Day with a young one for the first time or at least first time they will understand the celebration. It is also great for a classroom to learn about the ways and why the country celebrates the Fourth of July. It is also just a fun read that educates while sharing the celebration!

I have shared some of our past Fourth of July crafts but there are more including red, white, and blue food ideas and roundups including other bloggers work. And there are crafts and posts about Lady Liberty and patriots.
