Gifting Ideas: Bird Feeders and Bird Houses

Disclosure: I was sent this bird feeder in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own. Purchases made through links in this post will provide me a small portion at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support!

I have always loved birds and have had bird feeders for many years in our yard. In 2020 however I really discovered my love of birds (especially the female cardinal). With everything shut down I spent a lot of time in the backyard and loved watching the wildlife. I even had a squirrel who liked to visit me when I was on my hammock. I even started a series called "Who's in the Backyard?" and shared many of the animals I saw in my yard. I learned more about birds because of it and loved it. I currently have seven bird feeders in my yard. During the summer we have nine with two hummingbird feeders. I also throw food onto the ground for the squirrels and the ground feeders. However, the squirrels have reeked some havoc on my feeders. They don't always understand the food on the ground is for them and the food in the feeders are for the birds.

Above are some of my broken bird feeders thanks to the squirrels. The tube feeder on the left lost some of its perches and protective hole covers--they fell out one day. The middle feeder is a squirrel proof feeder. When the weight of the animal on it is too much the outside layer drops down so the food is inside. The squirrels however chewed through the metal covering to get at the food. I have another one that is still intact thankfully! The third one is one of the many suet feeders I have that have lost their hanger. The squirrels pull them down and break them. Sometimes they just disappear as well. I wanted to replace the feeder on the left and was very happy to get an offer from Kingsyard. They offered me a bird feeder to review and a discount code for you!! I picked out the Kingsyard Weatherproof Metal Tube Feeder with Dome because I don't have any weatherproof feeders yet. I have two squirrel proof feeders already and figured if the squirrels become a problem I will get a squirrel baffler for the pole.

When the package arrived, I opened it right away and put it together. I was so excited that I may have accidentally let one of our indoor cats outside. Luckily, he didn't go too far and came right back in when I saw him. I took it outside to fill and hang.

I love the idea of having the platform for the birds as well as the tube. Some birds like a platform to eat and I usually was feeding them from the ground or my camera feeder, but the camera feeder has charging issues, so I have to bring it in a lot. My only complaint about the new feeder is that to fill it you have to take the cover and handle off completely. It is easy to do but I can see it being a pain in the winter when there is snow.

Besides that, though I am loving the new feeder. It fits nicely where the old broken tube feeder was. I have three feeders back there of different types.

The birds apparently like it as well as they came to it pretty quickly! Here is one of the first visitors--a tufted titmouse.

He came back quite a few times. Then came the black birds. This time of year our yard gets a large number of black birds--some are common grackles and some are red-winged blackbirds and I'm not sure about the others.

They fly away if I get too close, so the picture quality is not great. They usually keep to one of the feeder sections. I have another three closer to the house and one suet feeder near our shed's patio where I like to sit and read in the nice weather. The hummingbird feeders are also hung near there and the hummingbirds do not always like to have other birds around.

Now a bird feeder or a bird house makes an amazing gift! Hanging one changes the entire feel of the yard. We live a couple of blocks from a state highway that is always busy and has trucks at all hours. You can hear the traffic in the yard but usually our yard is full of birdsong covering the traffic noise. We have had people come into our yard be completely surprised by how it feels like one is in out in the wild and not a suburb of a major city. I love going out in the yard and hearing the birds calling to each other. When the feeders have been empty and I go fill them, I feel like the birds are telling each other there is food again. This is such a wonderful gift because it gives someone a piece of calming nature in their own yard. It is amazing how relaxing it is to hear the birds, and it often lets me have a break from the worries of life. My uncle who took my wedding pictures says I get better pictures of birds than him. (It is because of my camera bird feeders.) He is very into hiking and birding, so it is a big compliment, and I only have to go to my yard to be surrounded by the birdsong.

I get to offer you a 15% discount on your purchase from Kingsyard! Just use my code CMSBIRDS when checking out!! They have bird feeders, birdhouses, birdbaths and more! The products are high quality and will bring nature to your yard! So whether you want to buy something for your own yard or as a gift head over to Kingsyard and shop and enter the code: CMSBIRDS! I need to go check out the birdhouses. We have a sparrow family living in our old dryer vent and want to get them out. I'm hoping a birdhouse will give them someplace to move to! I would love to hear who is visiting your backyard!

Happy Birding!!
