Pip & Pals Book #1: Otter Space -- Emerging Reader Graphic Novel Review

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in order to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own.

What are your thoughts on graphic novels? I know many kids who love them. Many of them are quite good. I think they help kids who don't love reading get into books. My personal thoughts are that anything that gets kids reading and enjoying it is a good thing. Today we are sharing one for young readers--age recommendation is 6 to 9. The book is the first book in a new series. It is Pip & Pals #1: Otter Space by Jen de Oliveira.

About the Book:

Pip & Pals #1: Otter Space! is a part of the Pip and Pals collection.

Pip, the otter, and her pals are ready to make a splash in this otterly endearing early graphic novel series! When a swim leaves Pip covered in mysterious green fur, her friends brainstorm the only explanation that makes sense--she must be from space!

Pip is a playful otter who loves adventure and exploring in her seaside cove with her friends. One day, Pip emerges from the water to find her fur has turned GREEN!? Herman, the hermit crab thinks it's something she ate, but TJ, the tern, knows it can mean only one thing...Pip isn't from the seaside cove, but from Otter Space!

So, hilarious hijinks ensue as the friends figure out how to get Pip back home, only for Pip and her pals to realize that home is wherever her friends are. Dive into this early reader graphic novel series featuring irresistible Pip who is an otter like no other, perfect for emerging readers.

From Me:

Pip is a sea otter who has some strange characteristics for an otter. She struggles with her swimming. She keeps getting stuck in the seaweed. Then during one of her swims, she comes out of the water green. One of her friends decides that she must be an alien from otter space, and they need to find her home planet. Her friend takes her to another bird who has many inventions, but they don't always work as planned. They get to set to send Pip into space in a rocket but the rocket lands in the water. When Pip comes out she is back to her normal color.

This book is absolutely adorable. Pip and her friends are fun and cute. Her friend TJ is reading a comic about creatures which is where otter space comes from. Throughout the book there are otter puns that will have the readers laughing. The story itself is a bit silly and will also entertain the reader.

This book is perfect for a new reader. It is cute and fun and easy to read. It has animals, the ocean and outer space themes. There is a little something for everyone in it and it is a wonderful introduction to graphic novels. At the end of the book there are some fun jokes meant to get the reader laughing. It is a fun book and full of humor!
