Do you have cats and dogs? Do they get along? We all know the old saying about them being enemies, but we also know plenty of people who have both and they get along. Today we are sharing a book about a cat and dog becoming friends. The book is Lulu Didn't Want a Dog by Laurel Molk. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
About the Book:
Lulu’s life was good. She had a window seat in the sun, tuna for breakfast, salmon for dinner, and a comfy lap for long naps. And then her mother said the worst thing a loving cat mom could ever say: “We’re getting a rescue dog to keep you company!” Lulu didn’t want a dog! Think of the germs! Slobber on her water bowl. Drool on her toys? Her worst nightmare. And Gus was all that and more. Of course Gus was obsessed with Lulu and followed her everywhere. What’s a fine feline to do?
In this sweet tale of opposites forced to live together, Lulu learns to appreciate the canine brother she never wanted but ultimately needed. This story will be a great conversation starter for anyone looking to address new siblings and other big changes.
From Me:
Lulu loves her life. She loves being the only pet. Then her owner tells her they are getting a dog. A dog? Lulu doesn't want a dog. A dog slobbers everywhere. A dog is loud and rude. Lulu doesn't want a dog. Along comes Gus and he slobbers and is loud and rude. Lulu listens to her owner and gives him a chance or several chances. She still didn't want a dog. However when Lulu gets herself into trouble in cold water, Gus does not hesitate to help her. That is when Lulu realizes Gus isn't so bad.
This is a fun book that shares the differences between cats and dogs. It also shows how they can get along. Gus wants to play with Lulu. Lulu doesn't understand why he is so loud and crazy. But when it comes down to it, Gus goes out of his way to help Lulu. It is fun and sweet. It is the start of a real friendship.
This book is going to be loved by kids. It is fun. Gus is your typical crazy puppy. Kids will laugh at his shenanigans. It is the perfect book for story time. Kids will be laughing. Adults will enjoy the story as well. It is great for bedtime, when getting a new pet, or any story time.
