From Me:
There are not too many new Christmas songs for kids that are truly fun and loved. I can see the lyrics or words in this book being one. There is even a video on the Pole-to-Pole Express website to read the book along with the song. It features Garrett Miles on lead vocals. It is so upbeat and the kind I can see kids singing but also dancing to. Plus, kids who love trucks are going to love this book and song!
The story is Santa goes to check on the reindeer and discovers many of them are sick. Rudolph's nose is not shining bright, and others have the flu. Santa has a new problem--how is he going to deliver the gifts to the deserving children around the world? Don't worry, Donner has a plan! His plan is for Santa to use the 18-wheel chrome-and-steel sleigh for all of his deliveries this year. That way he doesn't need the reindeer to power it! With the truck loaded up and his large to go coffee, Santa is off and has a grand time delivering the gifts!
The song and story are upbeat. The reindeer are sick, but Santa is groovy with his 18-wheeler. I love the trucker lingo added in to the chorus of the song. I can see truck loving kids loving this version!! The book is fun. The idea for Santa being a trucker comes from Donner--one of the reindeers who is not sick! It is a fun solution to a problem which kids need to see that there are solutions to problems when one thinks about the resources available. The words are fun, and kids will enjoy the overall story, and the adventure Santa goes on by himself this year! The illustrations are colorful and fit the story perfectly. Let's face it, Santa has needed a ride upgrade for a while now! What better way than in an 18-wheeler as they tend to be what brings so many of our products to the stores! I honestly see this song as the new Rudolph! I also love that kids can follow along to the song while reading the book. I always loved having this option when I was young and it definitely helped me learn to read better!!
This book is perfect for anyone celebrating Christmas or believing in Santa. It is fun and will have the whole family laughing and dancing. I see it being read at holiday parties for children as well as by families, and even some classrooms. It is definitely a nonsecular Christmas book. Santa gets a new ride and we get to jazz up our Christmas songs!
