Do you have a dinosaur lover in your life? Or perhaps are just looking for a fun and humorous picture book to read for story time? I have the perfect new book out this week! It is Archibald and the Furry Dinosaurs by Suzanne Lang and illustrated by Max Lang. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
About the Book:
Meet Archibald, the only bald dinosaur in the world. From the #1 New York Times bestselling creators of Grumpy Monkey comes a charming new character in this laugh-out-loud story of Jurassic proportions that celebrates standing out from the crowd.Long ago, in the time of prehistoric preening, all dinosaurs have fur. All except for one. Meet Archibald.
When Archibald embarks on a dangerous quest to find his lost locks, he encounters danger at every turn. Along the way, he outwits the clever Woollyciraptors, rescues two dinosaurs from getting eaten, and even encounters the dreaded Furannosaurus Rex! While he may not end this story with even a strand of hair on his head, he does begin to see that his life is wonderful as it is. As he discovers, it’s better to focus on what you do have, not on what you don’t.
Readers will laugh along as Archibald learns to embrace the things that make you different.
From Me:
It is hard to be different in the world. For Archibald it was all about hair. At some point he lost his hair and now he is the only bald dinosaur. After being teased and questioned about it, he decides to search for his hair. The only problem is everywhere he looks there is danger. He manages to escape the danger each time and begins to realize he is better off without his hair, which is a good thing because his hair doesn't want to return. The next time a dinosaur talks about Archibald not having fur, he shares with him that being bald has actually saved his life and others several times. Soon all the dinosaurs want to be bald!
This book is the perfect book for a read-aloud story time. Everyone will be laughing and enjoying the craziness of the trouble Archibald gets into. After all who has heard of hair that takes off from the body it is on. It also has more serious messages that could lead to great discussions. Archibald comes to accept his differences. Not only does he accept them, but all the other dinosaurs accept them and want to be like him! It is a book about self-acceptance and self-confidence. Archibald is also brave. He goes into dangerous places looking for his hair and even plans for some of them so he can protect himself. Each time he escapes it is because he doesn't have fur!
Whether you are a teacher or going to read a story for a class or another story time, this book will entertain everyone. It is also a great book to give as a gift especially to dinosaur lovers. All though the names of the furry dinosaurs are made up kids will enjoy them! The story itself is entertaining, and I love the message about self-acceptance for kids this age! It is a great start for a discussion on differences and what makes each of us special!
