The Stuff of Stars Review for National #STEM / #STEAM Day

Disclsoure: Candlewick Press sent me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Did you know Thursday (November 8) is National STEM/STEAM Day? It is a day to celebrate and challenge our kids with STEM activities and lessons. I have a pile of STEM related books to share so I am going to try to get through my pile this week. I am going to start today with a book about the big bang theory. It is The Stuff of Stars by Marion Dane Bauer and illustrated by Ekua Holmes.

This beautiful book shares the beginning of the universe. It mentions God but then shares the big bang theory. The words are easy to read and often repeated. The illustrations are abstract and often geometric. The story itself goes through creation and continues until the reader is born. It reminds us that we breathe the air that the wooly mammoth breathed. It reminds us we are made of the stuff of stars.

This book is suggested for ages 4 to 8. It is sweet and tells one theory of creation and leads to an important message of how special we each are. I can see this being a great introduction to science and creation for preschoolers. I hope you will check it out.
