Miss Figgy's Garment School for Girls and Family Paint Night - a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: C&T Publishing sent me this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own! I will receive a small stipend for purchases made through the links in this post. Thank you for supporting Crafty Moms Share!

A couple of weeks ago I started as a teacher's assistant at Hazel's school. I am working three days but have found my time getting away from me. This of course means less time for crafting. Today I am going to share a sewing book meant for tweens and teens and the one craft I did find time for this week. Hazel's school had a family paint night and Hazel and I went.

The art teacher ran it. She picked a painting with a tree by water because the school motto is Psalm 1:3. We decided to hang them together in the kitchen. I printed out Psalm 1:3 to hang with them so we can remember the scripture as we see our paintings.

I love these paint nights because they give me a chance of getting a decent painting. Hazel's painting was one of the best I saw of the kids' paintings but I didn't get to see them all. I am happy with how they came out even if they are not as beautiful as the original one.
Ms. Figgy's Garment School for Girls

Do you have a girl who wants to learn to sew her own clothes? This book is for her. It is Miss Figgy's Garment School for Girls by Shelly Figueroa. The book even has a forward by Amy Butler. If you do not know Amy Butler, she is a famous fabric  and pattern designer. The book begins by talking about different types of fabric and fabric vocabulary. Next Figueroa discusses the various sewing supplies needed. Then comes the sewing vocabulary and basics like seams and hems and how to measure oneself. After that comes information about patterns and how to use them and understand them. Then comes the fun part--the projects!! There are six sections of projects: Tank Tops, Dolman Top, Skirts, Dress It Up with altering the pattern, Make It Causal, and Accessorize It.  Each section has two to three projects in it.
The projects are easy and the instructions are easy to follow. The projects are simple but cute.

The patterns are at the end of the book. There is also a glossary and a resource page.

The book includes instructions for tops, skirts, dresses, pajamas, a clutch, a headband and a belt. I love how it gives girls independence to make their own clothes in their own style. I also love the idea of making clothes that are simple and not so grown up as many of the stores sell.

I hope you will check this book out as well as some of the other great books at C&T Publishing! You can check out some of our reviews of their other books here
