Origami Fun -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: Tuttle Publishing sent me these products in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Want to learn origami? Or have your kids learn it? I have some great kits and books for you today for different levels of origami makers from beginner to master. Look at some of the fun things I made with these products.

For our kids, there is Japanese Origami Kit for Kids. This kit comes with a book, 72 double sided sheets of square origami paper and 20 practice dollar bill papers.

The book is written by Michael G. LaFosse. It has twelve different projects that are not the common ones that are seen everywhere.
I decided to make the lotus topper. To make it you have to make the masu box and the shuttle box (so that you have a place for the topper).

The instructions in this kit are relatively easy to follow. In the beginning of the book there are a couple of practice projects to understand the instructions better. I found a few of the steps to be a bit confusing, but managed to figure them out. The papers are beautiful in this kit and full of color.

The next kit we will look at is the Fun & Easy Origami Kit. I would say it is the next easiest kit of the four I am sharing. It is being released September 26, 2017. This kit has two books and 98 double sided sheets of paper including two gold sheets. The books have a total of 29 projects.

One of the things I love in this kit is that it shows how to use some of the projects on cards. I find so many projects don't have much use after making it so I love the suggestion (and in fact used it myself when I taught an origami class last month at work).

The projects in this book are very easy and the instructions are clear to follow. I made several starting with Wind Toy. This is a very easy project.
To really understand it check out the video.
I also made the bird party basket. I stuck something in it to keep it weighted for the photo but imagine putting small candies in it for a party.

I also made the dollhouse bed which reminds me of a fairy bed since it is rather small.

I also made the pop-out heart which can be used for Valentine's Day or just a love note.

This kit has very easy and fun projects. The instructions are clear and the papers are fun and colorful as well. This kit is great for kids and beginners!! There are many fun projects that are relatively different from the common ones.

Our next kit is the Complete Origami Kit. This kit includes two books with 30 projects and 96 sheets of double sided papers. The projects in this books are relatively easy with a few harder ones in it as well. The papers are colorful and fun as well. I started with the fish.

I drew the eye on but thought about using a googly eye as well. I also made the pinwheel.

This is a great kit for children or beginners. It has everything you need to make the fun projects.

Our final product is a book that comes with a DVD. It is LaFosse & Alexander's Essential Book of Origami by Michael G. LaFosse and Richard L. Alexander. This book has some easier projects and several more difficult ones. Having the DVD makes it easier to understand as well. The book also has several pages about origami and art. Then it has sixteen projects. I made the seahorse using paper from one of the other kits since the book does not come with any origami paper.

I also made the hummingbird. Mine isn't perfect but I like it anyway.

This is what it was suppose to look like.
I will admit I rushed a bit too much on these. I think I will try again when I have more time to really do them and use the DVD. The projects in this book are more difficult and are better for someone who has been doing origami previously.

So these are four origami products to get you started or with new ideas. I hope you will check them out!
