Today I am writing about a new book in the Ordinary People Who Changed the World Series by Brad Meltzer. It goes on sale today!! And in perfect timing it is also my post for the Multicultural Kid Blogs Martin Luther King Day for Kids Series. I am Martin Luther King, Jr. by Brad Meltzer and illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos brings the life, teachings, and beliefs of Martin Luther King, Jr. to kids in a fun way.

If you have not discovered this series you need to check it out. Brad Meltzer got frustrated with what heroes were available to his three children in books and decided to use his knowledge of history to change it. These books are written in easy words and in first person. Throughout the books there are cartoon drawings and occasionally a few word bubbles. Hazel has been asking me to get more of these books recently so she was really excited to see this book arrive! The added bonus is she really likes learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.

As I read this book and think about the current state of our society I wonder what Martin Luther King, Jr. would think of our world today. His lessons of peaceful demonstrations and love seem a bit lost in the craziness of our violent world. This book like many about Dr. King remind me of how far we have come and how far we have to go towards equal rights for all. Dr. King believed in service and fighting hatred with love and in peaceful ways.  Whenever I read a book about Dr. King it gives me hope that our society can change and be a peaceful and free place for all. It is time for us to stand up for freedom and the rights of all. It is also time for the violence around us to end so we can sit and have peaceful discussions and find solutions rather than killing one another.

Anyway getting off my political stand and back to this amazing book. I hope you will check it out. I know we love it and are going to be reading even more in the series!!
