The Last Kids on Earth -- Book Review

I have 2 current giveaways!! One for an Origami Toy Monsters Book & Kit and the other for 2 DVDs.
Disclosure: Penguin Kids gave me a copy of this book free of charge for this review. All opinions in my review are my own and I did not receive any other compensation.  As in all my reviews I am providing links for your ease, but receive no compensation.

Today I am sharing with you a book written for middle grade (grades 3-7) readers. It is definitely not Hazel's type of book. I started reading it to her, but she got scared very quickly. It however is great for Halloween since it is about a monster apocalypse. The book is The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier and illustrated by Douglas Holgate. The book is part adventure story and part comic. It is entertaining and hard to put down even for someone who does not usually read this type of book.

The main character of this book is an average thirteen year old boy whose foster family left him to fend for himself when the monsters came. His town is filled with various monsters and zombies. He has some survival techniques and is trying to get in touch with his best friend. Slowly he finds friends and classmates who have not turned into zombies and work together to survive. Even the class bully joins him. They find together they are better than separate. It is a fun story with much excitement and quite a bit of humor. With the combination of story and comic I would guess it may interest even the most reluctant reader.

Survival Tips from the main character
Overall I enjoyed this book and think it is a great book for the right reader. My extremely sensitive and easily frightened daughter is not the right reader of this book. However I know there are many kids who would love it!! I hope you will check it out.
