Hazel loves exploring the world. She loves learning about different cultures. Since her father does not like to travel or spend the money to travel, we explore from home. We try recipes from other countries, listen to music from other countries, read books about other countries and we love to read stories from other countries. Tuttle Publishing sent us Vietnamese Children's Favorite Stories retold by Phuoc Thi Minh Tran and illustrated by Nguyen Dong and Nguyen Thi Hop.

This beautiful book has fifteen stories from Vietnam. It even includes Tam and Cam which is the Vietnamese Cinderella. Several of the stories tell tales about Tet Nguyen Dan (the Vietnamese New Year) and its traditions or rather the tales from where they come. This of course helps the reader get a better understanding of the customs of Vietnam. All the stories lead the reader to learn a bit more about life in Vietnam. And each story has beautiful illustrations.

Hazel loves hearing the stories from this book and asks for one a night if not two. They are a wonderful way to explore Vietnam without traveling there.
