Do you know that the Chinese New Year starts on Thursday (February 19) this year? If you are looking for a fun unit that uses a Chinese New Year theme to teach PreK, Kindergarten or First Grade some math and literacy, this packet is perfect for you. The packet am I talking about is Chinese New Year Math and Literacy Unit ~ Holidays Around the World (CC Aligned) by Kid World Citizen.

This unit includes an introduction to the Chinese New Year or lunar new year since other countries also celebrate it. There is also a list of books to read about the Chinese New Year. Then there are vocabulary cards, lessons to help with counting by tens, counting and writing numbers, greater than and less than, addition and subtraction (with coloring), connect the dots with alphabet, and interactive teacher led reading comprehension activity and some coloring pages and crafts. The lessons look very much like what Hazel brings home from her kindergarten class. I love how they are all tied into the Chinese New Year celebration. I can honestly say that this unit is perfect for a homeschooler or teacher who wants to strengthen the lessons and add a little culture to the lesson.
