I reviewed the Hayes versio...Oh, I love this story! I reviewed the Hayes version last fall (http://alldonemonkey.com/2012/09/28/cinderella-around-the-world-us-southwest-and-appalachia/) but hadn't read the San Souci version. If I remember correctly in his notes Hayes writes that most of the versions he heard used the Virgin Mary, but he decided to change it to fit native imagery. Makes a big difference in the story!<br /><br />And I love the history you shared!
